hello and happy saturday!
saturday’s at the box (aka: crossfit gym) always up the ante. today was no exception! today i got to participate in my first hero wod!
what’s a hero wod you might ask? they are some of the most intense workouts, designed to be performed with intense effort, and in honor of fallen heroes. there’s a whole list of them over at crossfit.com.
today, at Crossfit314, we did “Gator”.
U.S. Army Specialist Christopher “Gator” Gathercole, 21, of Santa Rosa, CA, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based in Fort Lewis, WA, was killed by enemy fire on May 26, 2008, in Ghazni, Afghanistan.
He is survived by his brother Edward, sisters Jennifer Daly and Sarah Ferrell, father Edward Gathercole, and mother Catherine Haines.

and here’s what the WOD looked like:
i wanted to get through all 8 rounds so i scaled back to 68# front squat (should have done more).
the pushups got ugly. the first round was on the rings (on knees). second round went to – half on rings, half on floor (on knees). third round 1/3 on rings…and everything else(!) rest was all on floor on knees!
for those counting, that’s 208 pushups! WOW it was tough.
i finished in 18:48. i know i could have done better, but i’m excited to have such a benchmark workout under my belt and in my logbook!
